Dr. Tonny K. Omwansa, PhD, is the pionneer substantive CEO of the Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA). He is a prominent technology and innovation expert with 15+ years of experience in Africa’s ecosystem, specializing in research commercialization, entrepreneurship programs, and AI.

Prof Njiru is an extinguished scholar in Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Ecology. He has over 30 years in public, research and academia where he has held several positions. July 1st 2024 – June 30th 2025: Professor/Lecturer Kisii University CEO/Director General – Kenya Marine and Fisheries Institute (KMFRI) – July 1st 2016 – June 30th 2024 2017 June – June 2024: Kenya representative to Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO) – France, Paris Kenya Sherpa – Ocean Decade Alliance – for HE the President 1990 – Present: Research Scientist (Aquatic Sciences/Fish Biology) 2015 – 2016: Director Postgraduate Studies, Kisii University, Kenya 2014 -2015: Director Undergraduate Studies and Chairman of Department, Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, Kisii University, Kenya. 2005 – Present: Lecturer at several Universities in Kenya, Moi University, University of Eldoret and Kisii University. Widely published work in peer reviewed journals with over 120 peer reviewed published papers. Authored 37 Children books – some approved by Ministry of Education
